Jesus’ last words were “Go, and make Disciples of all Nations.”
As Catholics, we make the intentional choice to be ACTIVE followers of Jesus.  This includes a
commitment to form our families and ourselves as disciples.  At St. Ann, we take this command seriously by providing quality faith formation opportunities for every age and stage in life.
We welcome your family’s participation as learners, mentors, parents, catechists, aides, youth leaders, food providers and prayer supporters

Middle & High School Christian Formation

Each Week both Middle and High School students will gather in the Worship Space for opening welcome and prayer.  Following this, middle school (6th & 7th) will go to their designated areas for their sessions. 8th-12th graders will remain in the Worship Space.  All groups will regather at the conclusion of sessions for announcements and closing prayer.  There is a specific “Pick Up Protocol”.  Please review the enclosed instructions and follow accordingly.  Thank you!

Celebrate Youth Masses are held on the 3rd Sunday of each month during the regularly scheduled 11:15a Mass and is generally followed by a Family Potluck held at 12:30p.  This is an “official class”, hosted by individual grades, and students are expected to attend!

Middle School Youth Group – grades 6-7 –Our middle school students use the Pflaum Gospel Weekly, Vision, which offers a lectionary-based approach to learning about our faith, as the basis for their classroom breakouts.  Additional seasonal information/activities may be included, or replace specific weeks, depending on appropriate timing.

High School Youth Group – grades 8-12 – The High School program follows a 4-year cycle using the 4 pillars of the Catechism: Creed, Sacraments, Morality and Prayer and Discipleship (Prayer is woven into all 4 years and is not a separate yearly theme).  Our theme for the 2021-2022 year is “Sacraments”. Students will meet in large group sessions with informal small group breakouts. Our 11th/12th grade students will spend time in more in-depth conversation on the theme for the year and other topics of interest. Additional seasonal information/activities may be included, or replace specific weeks, depending on appropriate timing.  If you have a tenth grader preparing for Confirmation, participation in HS Youth Group is a requirement.

Confirmation – grade 10 – All tenth graders preparing for Confirmation will be expected to attend High School Youth group AND a kickoff day-long retreat (Sept 18), a weekend retreat (January 14-16) and a final retreat (scheduled after celebrating the Sacrament) geared specifically toward Confirmation preparation.

There is an optional meal plan for those interested in participating in the meal offered during the 30 minutes prior to regular formation sessions.  We have a one-time $25 fee, or a recommended $3 fee per meal, for students interested in participating in this social time.  Please be sure to check the box if your child is interested in participating in the meal option each week.

Youth Confirmation Preparation & Celebration

Effective July 1, 2010, the Diocese of Richmond established policies regarding the Sacrament of Confirmation for adolescents who have received the Sacraments of Baptism and the Eucharist.

  • In order for an adolescent to begin preparing for Confirmation, he or she must be currently enrolled in the 10th grade and at least 15 years of age.  Reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation will occur in the spring of the year in which the candidate has completed the preparation.

  • All Candidates seeking Confirmation must be concurrently enrolled in a religious education program during the year in which they prepare for the sacrament.

Safety First!

Every effort is made to create a safe and welcoming learning environment for our children, youth and families:

  • All staff and volunteers who work with minors must complete a background check and VIRTUS training

  • The gathering spaces are inspected regularly by the Diocesan Office for Risk Management and parish staff.

  • AED devices, first aid kits, fire extinguishers, and telephones are available in the Education building and church.

  • Several staff members and volunteers are trained and certified in CPR and the use of the AED devices.

  • Procedures for the safe and orderly pick-up and drop-off of children are defined in parent & catechist handouts.

  • All diocesan policies and procedures for the safe supervision of children and youth are followed.

  • All diocesan policies for the transport and supervision of youth during "off campus" activities are followed.

If you identify a potential safety issue that is not being properly addressed, please contact Dr. Clement immediately.

VIRTUS:

VIRTUS® is a national Catholic training program for the prevention of the abuse of minors.  The Diocese of Richmond requires that all adult volunteers who work with minors must complete a background check and take the 3 hour VIRTUS training course. Please see www.virtus.org for more information or to register.

Currently, due to Covid 19, the Diocese of Richmond and St. Ann Church is recommending the following guidelines to our programs. Please note, that should restrictions change, these guidelines will be adjusted as well.

  • Students who develop the symptoms (temperature of 100.4 or higher and/or flue like symptoms) during class will need to be taken home immediately.

  • All students must wear a mask during class and related indoor activities.

  • The sharing of classroom supplies is not permitted (i.e., pencils, scissors, etc.). A limited supply list is attached to this email.

  • The use of restrooms prior to class is strongly encouraged.
