Parish Pastoral Council Minutes June 5, 2008
Present: Fr. Lou Ruoff, John Cornett, Eric Ertzner, Kim Flores, Don Hall (Vice Chairman), Mary Hartsell Chairman), Margaret Hendrick, Jim Ingle, Joyce Navary, Mary Ellen Winkler Absent: Jon Pope, Sr. Ann The meeting was called to order by Chairman Mary Hartsell. The opening prayer was led by Don Hall. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Guidelines for the Recording Secretary were recommended. In the future, all members will receive the minutes for review/approval/changes prior to being published in the Sunday bulletin or posted in the Commons. The joint Parish Pastoral Council/Finance Council retreat will be held September 12-13 at the Waverly Air Field. Barbara Hughes of the Catholic Virginian will be the facilitator. Kim, Margaret, Don and Rob will work out details. The topic will be team building between the two groups and the call to serve responsibility. There will be an attempt to arrange roommates so that one from each group will be roommates. The parish letter to the Pastor of Colonial Heights Baptist Church will be presented in late June at a “Meet Your Neighbor” event at CHBC. There was no update on the demographic study. A copy of the budget was mailed to PPC members. There is a $150,000 increase in the parish budget. Let Fr. Lou know if you have any problems with the budget. There has been no response to the letter to the Bishop about his Stewardship campaign. Can we assume that silence is consent? The new proposal for increasing office space is that instead of a trailer we revise/renovate current space. Tom Keesler will get numbers together about various suggestions that were offered. These will be shared with PPC members at the July meeting. The discernment process will continue in July. Joyce and John were presented with the diocesan book “Called to Serve” that explains expectations for the PPC role. Fr. Lou explained his vision of PPC as an advisory group for the pastor. He expects honest, bold responses in discussions. Jim Ingle presented a time line for the remainder of LPA. The next meeting will be July 24 at 7 p.m. The meeting closed with a prayer led by Don. Respectfully submitted, Pat Blaszak Recording Secretary |
